CHURCH RENOVTION PROJECT

In this project we were asked to work on a church in Columbus Indiana that was on the Historic Registry of Columbus Indiana.  We had to design a new space while preserving the existing architecture. We design this artist/gallery space for IUCA+D in Columbus.  We had to incorporate studios for the artists, apartments, dinning and kitchen, gallery space, cafe, and flexible seating space for artists to mingle.  My design is very open, with multiple levels of different angled floors.  I wanted to keep the existing style of the church by keeping the trusses visible but also wanted to distract from the original basillica layout of the church.  The angled floors plus the catwalk extending over the entrance pulls the visitor in and draws their eye through the space.
